Translated by Wilson Keklandala
Ancient classical literary works have enriched Sinhalese culture in the past. Classical poetry and prose such as Nampotha, Magul Lakuna, Ganadevihalla, Wadan Kavipotha, Buddha Gajjaya and Sakaskadaya were written for small children. Buduguna Alankaraya, Guttilaya, Kavya Sekaraya, Salalihinisandeshaya, Ummagga Jathakaya, Saddharma Rahnawaliya, Rathnawaliya, Rajawaliya and the jathaka potha were some of the prescribed school text books in the past.
Loveda Sangarawa, Subhashithaya and Lokopakaraya are some of the most Popular didactic poetrytaught in the longest didactic poetry book among those. Lokopakaraya is comprised of the vivid qualities of human nature as the Good Qualties of human nature as the good qualities of virtuous people and the bad qualities of wicked men.
The advisory value of this poetry reminds us of Buddhist Philosophical and ethical thinking.
